One way to get everyone to watch your new music video: make friends with a superstar who's so universally beloved he has a People's Choice Award for being the favourite actor of the decade and then get him to direct it.

Johnny Depp helmed the clip for "Unloveable," the new music video for UK rock band Babybird (their song "You're Gorgeous" was a hit overseas back in '96). According to The Guardian, Depp plays guitar on the track -- but you won't get a peep of him in the video.

As Vulture reports, the concept is based on a Civil War era short story, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." The tale of a man who escapes hanging only to be pursued by his captors, it previously inspired an Oscar-winning short, a Twilight Zone episode -- and now, this moody music video which you're likely going to watch solely because you think Captain Jack Sparrow is totes badass. (Thankfully, you won't be wasting your time no matter your reasons for pressing play.)

Watch it below, then tell us what you think of Depp's work in the comments.

2010-04-22 15:09:05 - UK Music and Video Market Data & Forecast to 2013 - a new market research report on companiesandmarkets.com

UK Music & Video Market Data & Forecast to 2013 report is the essential source for Music & Video industry data and analysis covering UK, both at the top level and providing in-depth category and channel insight.

The report provides historical data and forecasts for the UK Music & Video Market industry in the period 2004-2013, detailed profiles and financial

metrics covering the major market players, a breakdown of key recent M&A and partnership activity, and comprehensive analysis of the key factors driving the industry at consumer, market and company level.
The UK retail sector contributes approximately 19.3% to the gross domestic product (GDP at current prices) and plays an important role in shaping the economy. With total sales of US$515.7 billion in 2008, retail sector is the largest private sector employer in the UK. For the fiscal year 2008 music and video retailing accounted for 2.0% of the retail sales. This market has shown robust growth over the last five years. Although, specialist retailers dominate the sales of this product, online sales are leading in the sales growth in music and video retailing. Online sales benefited from higher penetration of high-speed internet and falling prices of MP3 storage devices. Music continues to be second most common purchase online behind travel reservations. The shift in sales towards e-retailing is forcing the store retailers to diversify their offerings, as such have introduced other related products such as games, MP3 players and mobile services. Another emerging retailer in this segment is supermarket, with increasing sales of music and video. The gender gap in the music and video retailing has been widening with men accounting for 53.1% of the sales and women accounting for rest. One explanation for this would be the affect of recession, where women try to cut discretionary spend on music and video retailing rather than health and beauty. Based on the music format, MP3 players are growing, gaining from popularity of iPOd's in the younger generation. This market is even making its presence in the middle age group. However, CD's dominate the older generation although the younger generation is also backing the physical format. Despite of market growing at a steady rate, it continues to be worn-down by the increased piracy, price competition and deflation. At the same time, store sales growth, especially specialist sales, of music and video are not in line with the overall market growth. Especially sales of pre-recorded music have declined, while video and picture market is being dominated by the supermarkets with their discounted pricing. On the other hand DVD sales have withheld the completion and recorded sales growth.
